2023 Porsche 718 Boxster Review: Performance, Luxury, and Advanced Features
Porsche 718 Boxster Overview
Looking to have some fun and forget about practicality? There’s perhaps no better way to enjoy the freedom of the open road than behind the wheel of a two-seat convertible, and one of our favorites is the 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster. Since the mid-1990s, this entry-level convertible has been an appetizer to attract new buyers into Porsche dealerships, with the famous 911 being the main course.
This year, a new Style Edition trim lets buyers choose from a brighter range of colors, and the high-performance Spyder adds Apple CarPlay. Otherwise, the 2023 718 Boxster remains mostly unchanged.
The 718 Boxster is incredibly fun to drive, with strong power from every model, impressive handling, and precise steering that makes you feel like the car is reading your mind rather than just responding to your inputs. It is a Porsche, though, which means you’ll be spending more than you would for any of its few competitors. To make things more complicated, we suggest upgrading to the GTS 4.0 trim, which costs almost $27,000 more than the base Boxster.
With a price above $90,000, the Boxster GTS 4.0 is tens of thousands of dollars more than a base Chevrolet Corvette, BMW Z4, or Jaguar F-Type. Porsche justifies that price with a more well-rounded car that delivers exciting performance and keeps things comfortable with a touch of refined luxury. There’s a lot to like about the 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster and only a few downsides, which we cover in our Expert Rating below. So go ahead, live a little, and get that dream roadster you’ve always wanted.

Porsche 718 Boxster Performance:
At the heart of the Porsche Boxster is its thrilling performance. The mid-engine layout ensures perfect weight distribution, resulting in excellent handling and agility on the road. The Boxster’s powerful engine, combined with Porsche’s engineering expertise, delivers rapid acceleration and precise cornering, offering a driving experience that’s unmatched. Whether you’re navigating winding mountain roads or cruising on the open highway, the Boxster makes every drive an adventure.
One of the Boxster’s most captivating features is its convertible soft top, which transforms the driving experience instantly. With just a push of a button, the top can be stowed away, inviting you to enjoy the open air and take in the sights and sounds of the road. This open-top driving adds a new level of excitement and freedom to every journey, making the Boxster the perfect companion for sunny days and thrilling escapes.
Porsche 718 Boxster Technology and Safety:
Porsche is known for its advanced technology, and the Boxster is no different. The car is equipped with state-of-the-art driver assistance systems and safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. Additionally, the infotainment system provides seamless connectivity, navigation, and access to various functions, enhancing convenience and connectivity during your drives.
Porsche 718 Boxster Competitors:
Porsche claims it’s the biggest leap forward in the roadster’s famous history. It’s longer, wider, and lower than the car it replaces, and its flat-six engine is more powerful yet cleaner and more efficient than before. We test the 3.4-litre Boxster S, with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, against two skilled rivals.
First up is the impressive Mercedes SLK 55 AMG. With its roaring V8 engine, upgraded chassis, and neat folding hard-top, this top-of-the-line roadster is one of the most desirable two-seaters on the road. Equally exciting is the Audi TT RS, which combines a strong five-cylinder turbo engine with the brand’s well-known four-wheel-drive system.
Each of these cars takes a different approach to delivering high-performance, open-air driving pleasure, but on paper, they’re closely matched, so this is sure to be a fierce competition.
