Intro
The Kia Sorento is a mid-size crossover SUV made by the South Korean car company Kia Motors. It was first introduced in 2002.
The first-generation Kia Sorento was released in February 2002 as a body-on-frame SUV. It came in two versions: the base version was the LX, and the higher-end version was the EX. There were two transmission options: a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic. The 2002 Sorento featured an AM/FM radio, an eight-speaker sound system, airbags, and other standard features like power windows, power door locks, keyless entry, and air conditioning.
In 2007, the first-generation Sorento got a facelift. The update changed the 5-speed transmission to a 5-speed Sportmatic Tip-Tronic automatic transmission. In 2009, the Sorento received another facelift, which only altered the car’s grille.
The second-generation Kia Sorento was introduced in 2009 and featured the signature Kia tiger-nose grille. It was offered in four models: the base models LX and EX, and the high-end SX models. This new generation included new technology features and got more updates in 2013 to its dashboard.
The third-generation Kia Sorento was released in 2014. It came in 5-seater and 7-seater versions. There were also options for transmission: a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual. Another choice was in the drivetrain, as it was available in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. It received a facelift in 2018, which updated its front grille, bumpers, and exterior lights.
The third-generation Kia Sorento was launched in Pakistan in February 2021. In Pakistan, it is available in three versions: 2.4L Front Wheel Drive (FWD), 2.4L All Wheel Drive (AWD), and 3.5L Front Wheel Drive (FWD).
Sorento Exterior

The addition of LED fog lights completes the look of the new Sorento.
The new Kia Sorento 2024 has electrically adjustable, foldable, and heated side mirrors, which also have side repeater lights. The back of the car has boxy, vertically positioned LED rear combination lights. The purposeful spoiler at the rear of the car has an integrated LED high-mounted stop light.
The roof of the Kia Sorento 2024 has a panoramic sunroof and a shark fin antenna, which complete the look.

The car has automatic dual-zone climate control with air conditioning vents in the third row as well.
Sorento Safety
Most of the safety features are standard in all the models except for the number of airbags. The Kia Sorento 2.4L FWD has only 2 airbags for the driver and the front passenger. The 2.4L AWD and 3.5L FWD come with 4 airbags.
Other standard safety features in the Kia Sorento 2024 include electronic stability control, brake assist system, Hill Start Assist Control, vehicle stability management system, anti-lock braking system, and ISO Fix child seat anchors.
These safety features make the Kia Sorento a desirable car to buy.

In contrast, the 3.5L FWD model has a 3470cc Lambda-II 3.5L V6 engine paired with an 8-speed automatic and Sportmatic transmission. This engine generates a maximum power of 206/6300 hp/rpm and a maximum torque of 336/5000 Nm/rpm.
Sorento Ride & Handling
The driving experience of the Kia Sorento 2024 is smooth and comfortable. The car’s steering is quick to respond, allowing the driver to control the vehicle easily.
The suspension of the car is also excellent, absorbing all potholes and bumps on the road to provide a smooth ride. The car remains stable even during sharp turns, with no body roll.
Sorento Maintenance
Maintaining the Kia Sorento 2024 is quite easy in Pakistan since it is assembled locally. The car’s auto parts are readily available in the market, and Kia’s customer service after purchase is also excellent.
Sorento Competitors
The new Kia Sorento 2024 competes with Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Prado, and Corolla Cross.
Kia Sorento has one significant advantage over its rivals, and that is its price. The Sorento 2024 is much cheaper than all of its competitors and offers similar features, making it an attractive option for buyers.
The Toyota Fortuner is the closest competitor to the Sorento in terms of price, but the Fortuner has a larger fuel tank and a loyal customer base. It is highly sought-after in Pakistan due to its representation of the owner’s socio-economic status.
Toyota Prado also offers similar features and comfort as the Sorento, but it is much more expensive. The Prado, another successful vehicle by Toyota, has long been associated with wealth and power in Pakistan. Because of this, despite its premium features and comfortable ride, Kia Sorento cannot match up to Toyota Prado.
Corolla Cross is also a competitor for Kia Sorento, but it is much more expensive and only seats five people.
