2024 Aston Martin DB12: Performance, Fuel Economy, Interior Comfort, and More
Overview
The beauty of the 2024 Aston Martin DB12 is undeniable. Its low, sleek body is eye-catching and makes you want to take a second look. It has the performance that matches its stunning looks, but don’t let its name fool you into thinking it has a V-12 engine. This new grand tourer is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine producing 671 horsepower, giving it enough power to reach a top speed of 202 mph according to Aston Martin. It’s also beautiful on the inside, combining high-quality materials with modern technology.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
As a true grand tourer, the DB12 is a high-performance vehicle. The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine in the DB12 produces 671 horsepower. This power is enough to propel the coupe to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, reaching a top speed of 202 mph. The Volante convertible version should reach 60 mph in about 3.4 seconds. Power is delivered through an eight-speed automatic transmission and an electronic rear differential.
We tested the DB12 coupe on winding mountain roads in southern France and the DB12 Volante convertible along the Pacific Coast Highway in Southern California. Both drives left us impressed with the car’s powerful V-8 engine and balanced handling. Even in the most aggressive drive mode, Aston Martin has maintained a comfortable ride without sacrificing much of the DB12’s cornering abilities, though the throttle response is a bit too sharp and doesn’t quite match the car’s overall character.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA rates the DB12 at 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. These figures aren’t impressive, but given the car’s 671 horsepower, we anticipated the DB12 would consume a fair amount of fuel. When we have the opportunity, we’ll test the DB12 on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and update this story with the real-world results. For more information about the DB12’s fuel economy, stay tuned.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
In a grand-touring sports car, interior comfort is as crucial as performance. Accordingly, Aston Martin has lavished the DB12’s interior with a mix of luxurious materials. Handcrafted leather covers nearly every surface, including the seats and dashboard.
For a car designed for travel, cargo space is important. We currently lack specific details on how many carry-on suitcases the DB12 can accommodate, but we’ll provide an update once we have the opportunity to test it ourselves.
